Al-Baqarah · 2:14
وَإِذَا لَقُوا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قَالُوا آمَنَّا وَإِذَا خَلَوْا إِلَىٰ شَيَاطِينِهِمْ قَالُوا إِنَّا مَعَكُمْ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُسْتَهْزِئُونَ
E, quando deparam com os que crêem, dizem: "Cremos" e, quando estão a sós com seus demônios(1) dizem: "Por certo, estamos convosco; somos, apenas, zombadores

(1). Demônios, aqui, traduz a palavra árabe Chayāṭīn, forma plural de Chayṭān, que significa qualquer rebelde malfeitor, ser humano ou nào. No versículo, refere-se a todos os que são hostis à missão de Muhammad.

14. When the hypocrites meet the believers, they say, ‘We believe what you believe’, as they think it will benefit them if they act like this; but when they are alone with their leaders, they say, ‘We are really with you and follow you. We are only making fun of them when we say that we believe’.
