Soera 7 · Djoez 9
Al-A'raf · 7:172
وَإِذْ أَخَذَ رَبُّكَ مِنْ بَنِي آدَمَ مِنْ ظُهُورِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَأَشْهَدَهُمْ عَلَىٰ أَنْفُسِهِمْ أَلَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ ۖ قَالُوا بَلَىٰ ۛ شَهِدْنَا ۛ أَنْ تَقُولُوا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ إِنَّا كُنَّا عَنْ هَٰذَا غَافِلِينَ
En toen de Heer uit de lendenen der zonen van Adam hunne nakomelingschap voortbracht, en hen koos om tegen hen zelven te getuigen, zeggende: Ben ik uw Heer niet? antwoordden zij: Ja, wij leggen getuigenis af. Dit is geschied, opdat gij op den dag der opstanding niet zoudt zeggen: waarlijk wij wisten het niet.

172. Mention, O Muhammad, when your Lord took from the loins of the children of Adam their descendants and had them acknowledge, bearing witness to His lordship, making it part of their innate nature to acknowledge that He created them and that He is their Lord. He said to them, ‘Am I not your Lord?’ and they replied, ‘Yes, we bear witness’. Allah said: 'I asked you this question so that you would not deny the proofs of Allah on the Day of Judgement, saying that you did not have any knowledge of it.
