وَأَنْذِرِ النَّاسَ يَوْمَ يَأْتِيهِمُ الْعَذَابُ فَيَقُولُ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا رَبَّنَا أَخِّرْنَا إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ قَرِيبٍ نُجِبْ دَعْوَتَكَ وَنَتَّبِعِ الرُّسُلَ ۗ أَوَلَمْ تَكُونُوا أَقْسَمْتُمْ مِنْ قَبْلُ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ زَوَالٍ
Daarom dreig de menschen met den dag, waarop hun de straf zal worden opgelegd. Waarop zij, die onrechtvaardig hebben gehandeld, zullen zeggen: O Heer! geef ons uitstel tot een nabij gelegen tijdstip. En wij zullen uwe oproeping tot het geloof gehoorzamen en uwe gezanten volgen. Maar men zal hun antwoorden: Zwoert gij niet vroeger, dat gij nimmer zoudt veranderen?

44. O Messenger, make your people fear Allah’s punishment on the Day of Judgment. Those who wronged themselves by disbelieving in Allah and associating partners with Him will say: “Our Lord, give respite to us, and delay for us the punishment. Return us to the world for a short period so we can believe in You and follow the messengers you sent to us”. They will be given a reprimanding response: “Did you not swear, while you were on earth, that you would not be transferred from the world to the afterlife, and you disbelieved in the resurrection after death?”
